Longing For My Heavenly Home
The ruler of the heavens all,
When sent to planet earth,
Could find no place to lay His head,
Nor home to grace His birth.
A Shepherd’s heart was found in Him,
Yet still a Lamb was He;
And while His sheep were doomed in sin,
He died to set them free.
His deeds were only perfect good,
While ours were black as night;
He paid our debt, e’en as we stood,
A-Mocking at His plight.
Our hardened hearts no more could bear,
Such love to still ignore;
With joy we left our burdens there,
And began to adore.
We died with Him, that fateful day,
To world, and sin, and Foe;
And walk the straight and narrow way,
His footsteps to follow.
And when He comes again one day,
To take us to His home,
Our homeless hearts in peace will stay,
No more this earth to roam.
