Jesus heals many sick and oppressed at evening

Mt 8:16-17 16 When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: "HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES."

Mk 1:32-34 32 When evening came, after the sun had set, they began bringing to Him all who were ill and those who were demon-possessed. 33 And the whole city had gathered at the door. 34 And He healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.

Lk 4:40-41 40 While the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and laying His hands on each one of them, He was healing them. 41 Demons also were coming out of many, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But rebuking them, He would not allow them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ.

One of the reasons why Jesus healed people was to fulfill prophecy. The prophecy was about Him taking on our infirmities and carrying away our diseases. It was symbolic of Him taking away our sins. A diseased or ill or demon-possessed person is a picture of a person with a burden of sin.

Jesus worked after sunset. When there was a job for Him to do, He did it to the best of His ability, at the expense of His own convenience. We need to remember this when we are called to serve God. We must serve Him at His convenience, not ours.

Jesus cast out many demons. The demons knew that He was the Son of the Most High God, and that He came to pay for the sins of man, and vocally expressed alarm at His presence. But He wouldn’t let the demons identify Him. He didn’t want word to go out just yet about who He was.

We also see that Jesus laid hands on each person to heal them. It was a lot of hard work at the end of the day. Why didn’t He just give one global healing word? I think it was because He wanted to connect with individuals. From this we learn that God is interested in you as a person, not just in humanity in general.
