Jesus heals peter's mother-in-law sick with fever
Mt 8:14-15 14 When Jesus came into Peter's home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and waited on Him.
Mk 1:29-31 29 And immediately after they came out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they spoke to Jesus about her. 31 And He came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she waited on them.
Lk:4 38-39 38 Then He got up and left the synagogue, and entered Simon's home. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Him to help her. 39 And standing over her, He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and she immediately got up and waited on them.
Just like how your home may have a thermostat, your body has one too. It’s called the hypothalamus, and it is a part of your brain. A fever occurs when your hypothalamus redefines the set point of your normal body temperature to be a few degrees higher.
Fevers are usually caused by a virus, a bacterial infection, or heat exhaustion.
A fever is symbolic of a spiritual infection – some foreign substance has taken you away from loving God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. Sometimes, ministry exhaustion can also pull you away from God; you fall in love with your ministry and fall out of love with God.
When we get a spiritual fever, we need to remember Mt 11:28-30 and go to Jesus for a spiritual healing. When the fever leaves us, like Peter’s mother-in-law, we can get up and wait on Jesus.
Mt 11:28-30 28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
