The letter is written to the saints who are at Colossae (Col 1:2).
The letter was written to explain to these Christians that Christianity is not about rules that don’t involve people, but about how we treat God and people.
Rules concerning what to eat or touch, and rules concerning what festivals to celebrate, are irrelevant to Christianity.
Our example is Jesus – the source of all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. He made all things, and upholds all things, and in Him dwells the fullness of the character of deity. Therefore, we should carefully examine His life when we want to understand what Christianity is all about.
Jesus never subscribed to useless rules, but focused on how one should treat God and man. So should we.
