To A Lost Love
When we last met, I never knew,
We’d never meet again;
And now, mixed mem’ries portray you,
With sweetness, and with pain.
Our hearts, in love, were deeply knit,
O darling of my dreams;
But someone tore them bit by bit,
And split them at the seams.
The fleeting moments that we shared,
Are pleasant, still, to me;
It warms my heart that once you cared,
My sweetest one to be.
I wish you best in all life’s lanes,
With goodness, from my heart;
For love transcends the many pains,
Of lovers who must part.
