On Writing Poetry
By golly, what is this I see?
Looks like a poetry writing spree,
With people trying hard to rhyme,
The syllables on every line!
And once they get the rhyme in line,
Their problem then is keeping time;
So generate and test each one;
And choose the words that sounds most fun.
Then add some humor here and there;
A touch of laughter everywhere;
A line or two of general verse,
Can never make things any worse.
Then you must add a little cream,
To give the verse a general theme;
And if you patient are, and wise,
You might want to just once revise.
Read now aloud what you have writ,
And ask if that should finish it;
Then stand ye back and smile, "Amen";
"By Jove, I've penned a nice poem!"
