A Sleepless Night
The night has fin'lly crept away,
And given in to dawn;
Yet, sleepless, on my bed I lay,
For seemingly too long.
My heater stead'ly chugs away,
A-battling the cool,
While here, in vain, for sleep I pray,
Beneath a sheet of wool.
My thoughts drift to the days gone by,
And touch the day ahead;
I bring to mind the things that I
So lately did and said.
While impish stars bid me, "Good morn,"
"Good night, good night," I weep -
Nocturnal lights have come and gone,
But I have had no sleep!
