The man of God leads a simple life and makes good use of time
There is a good reason why there are so few men of God. People want to be men of God but they don’t want to pay the price. And that is because they have not understood Who God is.
It takes time to make oneself employable, and keep oneself employable, in a secular business. It takes time to work and earn your keep. It takes time to raise a family. So there is little time left for other things, and if you want to become a man of God you have to be very wise in how you use your time.
If you waste your time when you are young it will significantly hinder your ability to be a man of God because we have the most spare time when we are young. We need to use that spare time to study the Bible and to train ourselves in godliness.
Keep your life simple, with minimal entanglement with the affairs of everyday life, so that as a man of God you can serve God the most.
- The more TV programs you are hooked on the less time to have to build yourself up spiritually.
- The more fiction books you read...
- The more games you play...
- The more hobbies you have...
Here is what Paul said to Timothy: don’t neglect the spiritual gift in you; take pains with it and absorb yourself in it; check yourself and your doctrine; no soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of the world.
1 Tm 4:14-16 14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery. 15 Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. 16 Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
2 Tm 2:3-4 3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.
Are you in active service? Or are you so entangled in the affairs of everyday life that you can’t be a good soldier?
It is so easy to get distracted. It is so easy for Satan to fool us if we are not careful.
